The Huntsville (AL) Times(5/21, Roop, 127K) “Breaking” blog reports that after legislators were accused turning NASA into “jobs programs” by funding their own projects for their states over projects NASA wants like the commercial crew program to send astronauts to the ISS, Sen. Richard Shelby’s office responded, “The overall health of our space program is dependent upon maintaining our global leadership role in human space flight. Other countries will assume that role if we shortchange (the Space Launch System), as the Obama administration has repeatedly sought to do. Sen. Shelby makes no apologies for fighting to advance America’s lead in human space flight.”
