NASA Glenn Research Center’s Plum Brook Station in Sandusky, Ohio, will celebrate completion of its new main gate at 10 a.m. on Nov. 4, 2015. Remarks by Glenn Center Director Jim Free and Plum Brook Station Director David Stringer will precede a ceremonial ribbon cutting and an open house for invited guests.

The main gate is the check-in point for employees and visitors entering Plum Brook Station. Located on Scheid Road, the new main gate improves security and reduces traffic through the residential area outside the former main gate on Taylor Road. It is scheduled to open in November.

Construction of the $6.9 million facility began in the summer of 2013. It is the latest facility to be completed under Glenn’s master plan for its campuses in Cleveland and Sandusky. Unveiled in 2007 and regularly updated, the master plan details a multi-year effort to renovate or replace World War II era buildings and facilities to meet NASA’s 21st century missions and create a consolidated energy-efficient center.

The 4,200-square foot facility achieved silver certification from the U.S Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). LEED is a third-party certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. The building features water-efficient fixtures, Energy Star equipment, and a state-of-the-art heating and cooling system.
