The Competency Models linked below are provided by APPEL Knowledge Services as PDF resources. Each model defines key competencies—such as Risk Management and Product Integration—and outlines the proficiencies expected at increasing levels of responsibility. Real-world examples and detailed skills lists are included.
Separate models are available for Systems Engineering and Program and Project Management, with 14 common competencies. By regularly reviewing and assessing these models, individuals and teams can identify skill gaps and target areas for growth.
On APPEL KS’s internal SharePoint site, members of NASA’s technical workforce can use these Competency Models in conjunction with our Development Frameworks, Course Catalog, and Curated Curricula to identify the courses and development resources that will help them acquire the skills and abilities that are considered drivers of success at NASA.
Members of the public can use these PDF models to see how NASA builds competencies that are the foundation of advancing science and exploring space. Many of these competencies also have broad applications beyond NASA.
