The Bell X-1 that was flown on the historic supersonic flight on Oct. 14, 1947, is seen on public display in 2015, suspended from the ceiling of the National Air and Space Museum’s main gallery in Washington, D.C. On the 75th anniversary of its first supersonic flight, the airplane is at the Udvar-Hazy Center in Virginia.
