iss074e0790404 (July 1, 2026) --- Cairo, Egypt, and its surrounding metropolitan area—with a population of about 22 million—is split by the Nile River and sits at the base of the Nile Delta. Cairo’s major urban districts (center) use newer LED fixtures that emit bright white light, while the suburban areas (top and bottom) use older high‑pressure sodium (HPS) lamps that produce a warm amber glow. The International Space Station was orbiting 262 miles above Earth at approximately 11:05 p.m. local time when this photograph was taken.
