Space Grant/Lake Area Tech scholar Steven Hamman was selected to present President Obama with a star quilt and Lake Area Tech jacket.
As part of the initiative for President Obama to visit every U.S. state, the White House selected a Space Grant technical college affiliate (Lake Area Technical Institute) in his visit to this 50th and final state. According to the White House, this institution was selected, in part, because of its high graduation and persistence rates. Activities included a commencement address from the president and a presentation ceremony of South Dakota mementos. It was here that Space Grant/Lake Area Tech scholar Steven Hamman was selected to present President Obama with a star quilt and Lake Area Tech jacket.
