Nick Ciganovick of the University of Wisconsin (left), Northrop Grumman mechanic Tom Ripley (center), and NASA mechanic Mike Bereda discussed the mounting of the university’s Scanning High-resolution Interferometer Sounder on a NASA Global Hawk for upcoming hurricane research. The sensor measured emitted thermal radiation to obtain temperature and water vapor profiles of Earth’s atmosphere, along with the sea surface temperature and some cloud properties.August 13, 2012
