According to the Northwest Territories (NWT) Government Facebook page one new fire has been reported in the NWT in the past 24 hours. 164 wildfires have been reported in the NWT, affecting about 181,955 hectares (449,620 acres). Eighty-two (82) fires have been declared out, 62 are being monitored, and 20 fires are being fought, 3 of which are under control and 17 are out of control or being held.
Fire personnel continue to work the fire in the North Slave Lake region. Demobilization of some personnel and equipment begins today. Fire operations are expecting to continue for the next week. Values at risk protection continues, and crews are scanning for deeper-burning areas and taking appropriate action. The fire size is currently about 7617 ha (18,822 acres). Fire danger is extreme in Yellowknife and Whati and high in Gameti and Behchoko. Warm and dry conditions expected in most areas of the NWT over the next few days, with increased winds and a chance of thundershowers developing in most regions.
