The United States Navy is conducting a Field Carrier Landing Practice detachment operation at the NASA Wallops Flight Facility through January 28. The E-2 Hawkeyes and C-2 Greyhound propeller-driven aircraft are conducting training activities intermittently between noon and 11 p.m. The practice is conducted at ashore facilities to provide pilots the opportunity to simulate carrier-landing operations in an environment where the risks associated with at-sea carrier operations can be safely managed. Field Carrier Landing Practice is required flight training that precedes and qualifies pilots for carrier-landing operations.
