NASA Dryden’s Dryden Remotely Operated Integrated Drone – or DROID – shows its colors as it turns to avoid steeply rising desert terrain during flight tests of a miniature ground collision avoidance system for small unmanned air vehicles. The DROID research aircraft was flown with a smartphone containing the collision avoidance software connected to its autopilot to enable automatic fly-ups when the aircraft neared terrain.May 31, 2012
