NASA’s 2020 Tech Flights solicitation is open and offers funding opportunities for researchers from U.S.-based industry, academia and private research institutions to rapidly test promising technologies for space exploration, discovery and the expansion of space commerce on commercial suborbital vehicles.

NASA is seeking proposals to address support for sustainable lunar exploration and the expansion of economic activity in cislunar space. Proposals that foster the commercialization of low-Earth orbit and utilization of suborbital space are also encouraged. Test flights can be conducted on U.S. commercial suborbital rockets, rocket-powered lander vehicles, high-altitude balloons and aircraft following reduced-gravity flight profiles. This solicitation includes new elements that allow researchers to participate in their technology testing aboard suborbital spacecraft and to add educational opportunities to their primary payload.

Mandatory abstracts are due March 20 and proposals are due April 24, 2020. NASA’s Flight Opportunities program will host two identical Q&A sessions about the solicitation March 11 at 12 p.m. PDT and March 12 at 8 a.m. PDT.
