Core Capability 7. Astrobiology: The Origin, Evolution, and Detection of Life
Rothschild’s proposal, “Myco-Architecture Off Planet: Growing Surface Structures at Destination” that was submitted to the 2018 NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) Phase I Solicitation, was selected out of more than 230 proposals. Rothschild and her team propose to use fungal mycelia as a technology for the rapid production of seamless structures including buildings, furniture, and rover shells, off planet. This work has already generated press inquiries which are being handled in conjunction with Ames and HQ PAO.
