Acting Program Manager, NASA's Space Launch System

David Beaman is the acting program manager of NASA’s SLS (Space Launch System) at the agency’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. He directs all SLS program activities, including development and operations of America’s deep space rocket.

Experience

Beaman previously served as manager of the SLS Engineering and Integration Office from 2019-2025, where he oversaw efforts for the heavy-lift rocket. From 2002 to 2011, Beaman was an integral member of Marshall’s Space Shuttle Program, leading various offices and playing a key role in shuttle missions. Following the shuttle program’s conclusion, he was named manager of Marshall’s Spacecraft and Payload Integration Office from 2011-2014, helping to lay the groundwork for NASA’s SLS program. Beaman began his NASA career in 2000, following several years as a contractor supporting U.S. Army research and development programs at Redstone Arsenal. Prior to that, Beaman worked with United Technologies and United Space Alliance, contributing to NASA’s Advanced Solid Rocket Motor program and the Solid Rocket Booster project.

Awards

Beaman’s contributions have been recognized with the NASA Medal for Exceptional Achievement, NASA Medal for Outstanding Leadership, Meritorious Presidential Rank Award, and the Space Flight Awareness Award for his dedication to quality work and flight safety.

Education

Beaman earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
