To inspire future leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, the Office of Education at NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio, will kick off its inaugural Girls in STEM event on Monday, July 13. Over 70 students from across Northeast Ohio are scheduled to join the event located at 21000 Brookpark Road.
Reporters are invited to attend the event, which takes place from 9 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
Girls in STEM is about empowering girls in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The event features an opportunity for students to engage in hands-on activities; participate in a variety of tours; and see a group of Science a’la Cart demonstrations. Students will also find out what its like to be a woman working in a STEM field by participating in a career discussion panel featuring women in different STEM fields at Glenn.
The panelists featured are Dionne M. Hernandez-Lugo, Ph.D, test engineer for advanced space power systems; Trudy F. Kortes, chief, Space Technology Project Office; Mary J. Lobo, space simulation facility manager; Nicole Smith, senior project manager for the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle; Xio-Yen Wang, Ph.D, aerospace engineer; and Valerie Wiesner, Ph.D, materials research engineer. Glenn’s Center Operations Director Robyn N. Gordon will moderate the panel.
