Media Invited to John H. Glenn Symposium, Roundtable Discussion with Agency Leaders

Media are invited to meet NASA officials who lead the nation’s aeronautics and space exploration programs during the inaugural John H. Glenn Memorial Symposium July 11-12 at the Global Center for Health Innovation located at 1 Saint Clair Avenue, Northeast in Cleveland.

Hosted by the American Astronautical Society and supported by NASA’s Glenn Research Center, this first for Northeast Ohio will highlight “Powering Innovation from the Sky to the Stars.” The event will showcase how NASA and our many commercial partners are preparing for a paradigm shift in commercial aviation, while accelerating efforts to land the first woman and next man on the Moon by 2024, where we’ll use what we learn to prepare to send astronauts to Mars.

NASA will host a media roundtable discussion on Thursday, July 11 with the following NASA officials at 3:15 p.m. EDT at the Global Center for Health Innovation:

  • Dennis Andrucyk, deputy associate administrator, Science Mission Directorate
  • William Gerstenmaier, associate administrator, Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate
  • Janet Kavandi, director, NASA’s Glenn Research Center
  • Robert Pearce, deputy associate administrator, Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate
  • Jim Reuter, associate administrator, Space Technology Mission Directorate
  • Douglas Terrier, chief technologist

Media interested in attending the roundtable should contact Jimi Russell at 216-433-2894 or james.j.russell@nasa.gov no later than 4 p.m. EDT, Wednesday, July 10.

Jim Morhard, NASA’s deputy administrator, and Kavandi will kick off the symposium at 8:15 a.m. EDT on Thursday, July 11. Other opening day activities include: a presentation on NASA’s Gateway; a discussion on supersonic flight; a panel discussion with senior NASA leaders on the agency’s technology investments; and a special session on John Glenn’s legacy with David Glenn, son of the late space pioneer.

Events on Friday will include a NASA astronaut panel hosted by Kavandi, discussions on the future of flight, and a presentation on the power and propulsion element for Gateway.
