Title: DC-8 30-Year Anniversary

Designer: David Faust (Graphics) with concept design by Matt Berry

Year it was designed: 2017

Explanation or story behind the patch: This patch is the 30-year anniversary of the first science flights on DC-8 for NASA. The anniversary turns out would have been August 21 of this year of its first flight. I wanted the logo to read “30+ years of versatility” but the rest of the team wanted to keep it science specific. Again, it was meant to show all of the different things we do on DC-8. Of late it has been doing a few Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD)-related projects and not just science. It has physically landed on every continent but Antarctica but we have done many flights over Antarctica in support of Operation IceBridge. It’s been to over 50+ countries and counting. This patch is a one-time limited addition. The project plans to use the DC-8 Airborne patch as the primary recurring patch.
