Patch: SR-71 Flight Test

Patch: SR-71 Flight Test
Patch: SR-71 Flight Test

Title: SR-71 patch

Designer: Dick Abrams

Year it was designed: circa late 1960’s

Explanation or story behind the patch: Close up of a rare Flight Test patch; only a handful of these exist. It is believed the patch was designed by the late Dick Abrams, back when he was flying for the USAF as a civilian, during Category II testing of the SR-71. The “Bucking Bronco” theme would mean that 955 was used for structural loads and or stability testing; you can see 955 on the tail fin. Of course the patch is orange since that is the universal flight test color. Patch dates to the late 60s I’m told. SR-71 # 955 was the primary test plane used by Lockheed until she was retired.
