Armstrong’s Office of Education Participating in Palmdale’s TNOTS

NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center’s Office of Education partnering with the Aerospace, Education, Research, Operations (AERO) Institute will be participating in Palmdale’s Thursday Night on the Square from June 25 to Aug. 13.

Armstrong’s Aerospace Education Gallery will be open throughout the summer series except for July 2 when NASA will not participate due to the federal Independence Day holiday. Hands-on activities are included every Thursday.

The NASA schedule for the eight-week event kicks off on June 25 with early aeronautic research in a presentation by Armstrong Historian Christian Gelzer regarding the 100-year celebration of the agency’s predecessor, the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA).

On July 9, NASA will feature demonstrations by local NASA sponsored robotics teams as well as hands-on activities with the robots. The following week, July 16, is a Solar System and Beyond presentation on the upcoming New Horizon spacecraft fly-by of Pluto to include the SOFIA connection to the mission.

For July 23, the evening is dedicated to activities for NASA’s Earth Right Now highlighting airborne science missions on the agency’s DC-8 aircraft. The theme for July 30 is the International Space Station – Off the Earth, For the Earth – one year Crew Mission Twins study.

On Aug. 6, the subject for the evening is NASA’s Journey to Mars – Prandtl-m, subscale aircraft, plans to fly in Mars atmosphere, which will be conducted by student interns working on the project.

The last evening of the event, Aug. 13, early career teachers will conduct a NASA aeronautics presentation using principles of flight. NASA is With You When you Fly since both the agency and NACA discovered innovative, safer and cost-saving technologies that you can find on our planes today.
