The NASA-DLR Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy 747SP dwarfs a ground crewman as it taxis to a stop on the flight line at NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center on Edwards Air Force Base, Calif. The flying observatory, based at the Dryden Aircraft Operations Facility in Palmdale, Calif., was ferried to Edwards in mid-March 2011 to conduct light and heavy gross weight ground turns tests.March 14, 2011
