Topic Trending Data within the Small Spacecraft Reliability Initiative Knowledge Base Tool

The Small Satellite Reliability Initiative (SSRI), in conjunction with NASA’s Small Spacecraft Systems Virtual Institute (S3VI), has developed the SSRI Knowledge Base (KB) to improve mission confidence for small spacecraft. The SSRI Knowledge Base is a free, publicly available, comprehensive and searchable online tool that consolidates and organizes resources, best practices, and lessons learned from previous NASA small spacecraft missions sponsored by other organizations. The SSRI KB is composed of 58 topic pages and currently includes content for 40 topic pages. Combined, the 40 topic pages contain nearly 300 unique resources and 180 best practices and lessons learned.

The SSRI KB was first released in March 2021 and since then, pageviews for each of the topic pages have been tracked via an analytical tool. The pageviews provide insight into particular small spacecraft topics of community interest over a period of time. Since the inception of the SSRI KB, the top ten topic pages with the greatest percentage of pageviews include: Mission Architecture Design (9%), Thermal Vacuum (5%), Mission Simulation and Analysis (4%), Electromagnetic Interference / Electromagnetic Compatibility Testing (4%), Development (3%), Bake Out (3%), Electronics Manufacturing (3%), Day-in-the-Life Testing (3%), Circuit Design and Thermal Cycling (3%). The topic pages with the least number of pageviews at 1% each include: Electrical Power, Command and Data Handling, Timing Analysis, Acoustic Testing and Propulsion. The pageview trends noted in the small spacecraft topics that are both of significant interest as well as those that are of least interest to the community for a specific period of time are interesting as they offer some indication of the focus of the community and also indicate where there is need for additional informational resources.

The SSRI KB continues to be updated with new content so please continue to visit the site to provide feedback; recommend a resource; submit your best practices and lessons learned; and rate existing resources (books, articles, software tools, websites, articles, and whte papers), best practices and lessons learned. Your input to the SSRI KB will significantly assist with the effectiveness of the tool and benefit the entire small spacecraft community.
