NASA Small Satellite – Learning from Experiences, Achievements, and Resolution Navigation (NASA SmallSat LEARN Forum)

The NASA SmallSat Community is comprised of multiple NASA centers and outside organizations implementing missions to advance the NASA goals. This community has extensive experience building and flying SmallSats but knowledge resides in individual pockets within the agency and its partners. To facilitate networking, information exchange, and collaborative learning within the NASA SmallSat Community, NASA implemented the SmallSat LEARN Forum in 2022.

NASA’s SmallSat LEARN Forum is a coordinated effort aimed at providing the NASA SmallSat Community with collaboration resources. LEARN stands forLearning from ExperiencesAchievements, and Resolution Navigation and through the forum we will share and learn together as a community to become smarter implementers of these missions.

Forum Goals

  • Expand personal networks
  • Break down barriers and silos
  • Increase community awareness
  • Reduce redundancies across the agency
  • Increase opportunities to leverage cross-cutting capabilities and technologies across the agency’s SmallSat portfolio

Forum Format

  • Virtual Sessions
    • Virtual meeting 3 times a year for 1 hour each session
    • Invited missions share issues, risks and lessons learned
    • Open discussion with Q&A
  • BUS Series
    • Virtual presentations by bus providers
    • Multiple 1-hour sessions per year, one provider per session
  • In-Person Technical Interchange Meeting
    • In-person only session to discuss relevant topics and improve personal networks
    • Meet once per year for 2 days

Join the LEARN Forum

The intended LEARN Forum audience consists of individuals who have directly worked on or submitted proposals to work on NASA SmallSat projects and missions. This includes, but is not limited to, principal investigators, project managers, and lead systems engineers.

To join the LEARN Forum, sign up at https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/su/jsapmDl/LEARN. You will receive an email notification of your subscription once your involvement with a NASA SmallSat project, mission or proposal is confirmed. By joining the distribution list you will receive:

  • Virtual sessions calendar invitations with instructions on how to join
  • BUS series calendar invitations with instructions on how to join
  • In-Person Technical Interchange Meeting announcements (participation in the TIM requires a separate registration which is available once the event is announced)

The SmallSat LEARN forum is organized and implemented by NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center’s (GSFC) Small Satellites and Special Projects Office in partnership with NASA’s Small Spacecraft Systems Virtual Institute (S3VI).

We look forward to your participation!
