NASA has awarded contracts to five companies for development, sustainment, and maintenance of information technology software, systems and support for the Flight Operations Directorate at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston.
The Joint Operations and Integrated Systems Technology (JOIST) contracts have a total potential value of $199.3 million. The work is broken into three baseline areas.
- Baseline A covers information technology and related support services for the NASA Aircraft Management Information System, which is an integrated, module-based, custom software suite that supports aircraft flight operations across the agency. Baseline A has a potential value of $25.6 million. It has been awarded to Science Applications International Corp. of McLean, Virginia.
- Baseline B covers services and support to the Flight Operations Directorate’s information technology system and its predecessor legacy components. Baseline B also provides support for the directorate’s planning, integration and control services. The potential value of Baseline B is $38.7 million. It has been awarded to Rothe Development, Inc., of San Antonio.
- The multiple-award, indefinite-delivery indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract segment covers specialized, highly-specialized, and advanced research and development information technology, not to exceed $135 million. This award is shared by Science Applications International, Rothe Development, Booz Allen Hamilton of McLean, Virginia, and Cimarron Software Services and Tietronix Software, both of Houston.
All five contracts begin Oct. 1. Baseline A and B end in September 2019. Each has a two-year option, followed by a one-year option to extend. The IDIQ ordering period ends in September 2022.
Johnson’s Flight Operations Directorate is responsible for providing trained astronaut crew members and for overall planning, directing, managing, and implementing mission operations for NASA human spaceflight programs. The directorate also is responsible for all of Johnson’s aircraft operations, including aircrew training.
