Robert C. Doremus

Manager, Mission Management and Integration Office

Robert C. Doremus is the manager of the Mission Management and Integration Office in the Commercial Crew Program (CCP). He supports CCP at NASA’s John F. Kennedy Space Center in Florida from his office at the agency’s Johnson Space Center in Houston.

He is responsible for mission management for Boeing and SpaceX flights. He coordinates mission support activities during flights and simulations and interagency coordination with NASA resident offices for SpaceX in Hawthorne, California, and Kennedy Space Center, as well as Boeing’s Commercial Crew and Cargo Processing Facility at Kennedy.

Experience

Doremus began his career at Johnson in November 1984 with Ford Aerospace & Communications Corp. as a flight controller. He worked as a mechanical and crew systems flight controller from 1984 to 2003, supporting 51 space shuttle missions in the Mission Control Center. In 1989, he became a NASA civil servant and later served as the lead for the Mechanical Systems Group in Mission Operations.

He worked in the Orbital Space Plane program from 2003 to 2004 before joining the Space Shuttle Program (SSP). He later served as the SSP safety office manager from 2009 to the end of the program in 2011. From 2013 to 2016, he served as a member of the Standing Review board for Orion, Exploration Ground Systems, and Space Launch System programs.

Awards

He is the recipient of several awards, including the prestigious Silver Snoopy award in 2001, Space Flight Awareness Awards in 2006 and 2018, a NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal in 2020, and a NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal in 2011.

Education

Doremus attended Texas A&M University and earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering in 1982.

Personal

Doremus considers Houston his hometown. He resides there with his wife of 40 years, Lora. They have three children, Diane, Brad, and Lindsay, and three grandchildren, Sofia, Daniela, and Charlie.

His interests include Southeast Conference football, Astros baseball, and running. Doremus has competed in the Houston Marathon and regularly competes in 5K races. He is also an enthusiastic foodie, having visited most of the top-rated restaurants in the Houston area.
