Lisa Seiler

Artemis Landing and Recovery Deputy Director, Exploration Ground Systems

Lisa Seiler is the Artemis Landing and Recovery deputy director in the Exploration Ground Systems’ (EGS) Operations and Test Management Division at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. She is responsible for the strategic planning, testing, and execution of the recovery of the astronauts and Orion spacecraft from the open ocean after splashdown for the Artemis crewed missions.

Seiler also provides oversight for ground and open water hardware development and certifications, and procedure development for all open water and Navy well deck operations. She facilitates training for all NASA personnel, Navy divers, and Space Force pararescue individuals in preparation for Artemis recovery operations.

Experience

Before moving into her current position, she served briefly as the technical assistant to the Artemis II recovery director. In the three years prior, she was the Lead Orion Artemis II Operations project engineer and the Lead Orion Artemis II Crew System Operations project engineer. She also provided firing room support at the Launch Control Center Integration Console, leading technical anomaly resolution during Orion and Space Launch System (SLS) vehicle processing, including Artemis I launch countdown.

In 2007, Seiler began her Kennedy career when she joined the Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) Division as a Spacecraft systems engineer. During a 12-year span as a contractor, she was the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle Program (MPCV) interface lead for EGS, while also serving as the EGS technical liaison to the MPCV and SLS programs, ESA (European Space Agency), and JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency). She also was the EGS Flight Crew Systems SE&I lead for all crew suit and crew systems integration, and the EGS lead for Orion MPCV and SLS secondary payloads.

Education/Awards

Seiler earned a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering and a master’s degree in industrial engineering from the University of Central Florida in Orlando. She also earned a degree in paralegal studies in the College of Law at Florida International University in Miami.

She has received multiple agency and center group achievement awards, as well as certificates of appreciation and recognition. In addition, she was a Space Coast Distinguished New Woman Engineer of the Year Award honoree and was featured in Florida Trend’s NEXT Career Connections magazine.

Personal

Seiler was born and raised in Miami, traveling to Kennedy many times over the years to experience launches, including the final Apollo liftoff and several shuttle launches. Her current hobbies include hiking, camping, and spending time with her husband and their four rescue dogs.
