Deputy Program Manager for Network Operations, NASA's Space Communication and Navigation Program
Jena L. Garrahy is the deputy program manager for network operations in NASA’s SCaN (Space Communication and Navigation) Program, overseeing daily operations of the Near Space and Deep Space Networks. She ensures these networks remain reliable through maintenance, engineering, and upgrades to support future mission needs.
Throughout her career, Garrahy has taken on key leadership roles within the SCaN Program, including deputy program manager for Mission and Stakeholder Engagement and acting assistant deputy associate administrator. She led efforts to strengthen ties with mission teams, industry, Congress, and international partners, and founded SCaN’s Network Integrity Program Office—the first federal initiative to align commercial and government cybersecurity standards with mission needs.
In 2018, Garrahy established NASA’s Network Integrity Program Office, the first federal office focused on aligning cybersecurity regulations with mission needs. The office manages SCaN’s daily security operations and works closely with the Office of the Chief Information Officer and federal partners, including the White House and the Department of Homeland Security, to ensure secure communications for NASA missions.
She has received multiple NASA awards, including the Leadership Award, two Exceptional Achievement Medals, and several Group Achievement Awards. The New York native earned a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Plattsburg; a master’s in international business and statistics from Bond University in Queensland, Australia; and a second master’s in national security and safety leadership from George Washington University.
A strong STEM advocate, she mentors students and speaks at events promoting STEM careers, particularly for young people in rural areas and women in science and engineering.
