Acting Branch Head, Chemistry and Dynamics Branch, Science Directorate, NASA Langley Research Center

Jamie Nehrir joined NASA Langley Research Center in 2011 after earning a Master’s degree in electrical engineering from Montana State University, where Jamie focused on remote sensing and optics. Soon after arriving at Langley, Jamie dove into hands‑on hardware work with the SAGE III mission, supporting the Instrument Assembly as a test engineer. Jamie eventually became the lead test engineer, guiding the payload through final integration and environmental testing and helping ensure everything was ready for launch.

Once SAGE III reached orbit, Jamie shifted to Mission Operations as a payload operations engineer and later became Mission Operations Manager in July 2018. In that role, Jamie worked closely with the operations team to keep the instrument healthy on‑orbit and continue collecting high‑quality atmospheric science data.

In December 2024, Jamie stepped into a new leadership role as Assistant Branch Head for the E303 Atmospheric Composition Branch. In February 2026, Jamie became Acting Branch Head, where Jamie now has the privilege of supporting a talented team of researchers, helping guide atmospheric composition science efforts, and championing the development of next‑generation remote sensing capabilities for NASA’s Earth science missions.
