DJ previously worked as a filmmaker, visual effects compositor, and digital imaging technician before joining NASA in 2017 as a contractor. As a virtual reality developer and 3D animator, he has spearheaded the Advanced Concept Lab team’s VR development, 3D animation pipeline, and compositing workflows.

He has led the production of many projects for NASA’s Langley Research Center, Exploration Systems Development Mission Directorate, Systems Analysis and Concepts Directorate, Game Changing Development (GCD) program office, and Low-Earth Orbit Flight Test of an Inflatable Decelerator (LOFTID) project.

His VR Demos have been influential across the agency and featured on many high-profile public tours, with attendees such as the U.S. vice president, Artemis astronaut candidates, governors, and members of the U.S. Congress. He’s also provided countless demos for general public outreach.

His NASA animations have received millions of views on social media and are used across the globe in TV broadcasts. Signed prints of his artwork “First Day of School on Mars” were given to the U.S. vice president and secretary of the Department of Education in 2019. This artwork is also now featured as a wrap-around decal print in the elevators at NASA Langley’s Headquarters building.
