NASA’s Lucy spacecraft is scheduled to launch on a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida on Oct. 16, 2021. The mission will be the first ever to study the Jupiter Trojan asteroids – two separate swarms of asteroids that are thought to be remnants of the initial material that formed the planets within the solar system. The mission will provide a glimpse into the origins of our solar system as we know it.

Name: Genevieve Taylor

Official title: Senior Mission Integration Engineer

Job responsibilities: As the senior mission integration engineer, I lead the technical integration team, incorporating spacecraft requirements with launch vehicle capabilities. I start working with spacecraft customers anywhere from three to 10 years before they launch to help them plan and develop their spacecraft so that it will be compatible with future launch vehicles. I work with them once a launch vehicle is awarded and all the way through launch to make sure their requirements are met.

Time working for NASA: I have worked for NASA for three years, all within LSP.

Degrees earned: I received a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering from the University of Central Florida.

Hometown: I grew up in the small town of Dade City, Florida, and I currently live in Titusville.

Family: I am fortunate to have the support of friends and family who live locally and to have caring mentors now, as well as in the past, who have supported me throughout my life.

Hobbies: In my downtime, I have traveled to remote areas such as the Galapagos Islands, all the way around Iceland, and to western Scotland. I look forward to traveling again soon, and one day, hope to get to the Antarctic Peninsula.

Fun fact: Most people would be surprised to learn that I grew up around race cars, as that was my dad’s hobby for more than 20 years. I spent a few seasons behind the wheel myself and raced at the full course of Sebring and on the high banks of Daytona.
