NASA Visitor Center Holding Wallops 70th Anniversary Youth Art Contest

Students can submit their interpretation of the world around us through NASA photographs in the “Art and the Cosmic Connection” contest being held at the Wallops Flight Facility Visitor Center in Virginia.

The youth art contest, open to pre-K through 12th grade youth, is being held in celebration of Wallops’ 70th Anniversary on June 27.

Kim Check, Visitor Center manager, said, “The contest aims to inspire art through science by using elements of art and NASA images taken from space. NASA spacecraft are visiting fascinating places and capturing images of otherworldly features that are great inspiration for art. NASA imagery of planets, moons, asteroids, comets, galaxies, and the sun will be the students’ inspiration as they make the cosmic connection between science and art.”

Registrations forms are available at the NASA Visitor Center and at the Art Class for Kids program at 10 a.m., May 16, at the Chincoteague Cultural Alliance, 6309 Church Street, Chincoteague.

The registration deadline is May 30 and forms may be submitted to Shirley.j.lapole@nasa.gov or mail them to NASA Wallops Visitor Center, Bldg. J-20, Wallops Island, VA 23337.  The deadline for submissions is June 13 and students may submit more than one entry.
