NASA Visitor Center Holding Astronomy Night May 29

The NASA Wallops Flight Facility Visitor Center will host an Astronomy Night from 7 – 10 p.m., Friday, May 29.

The evening will feature Saturn, the second largest planet in our solar system.  Saturn is well known for its magnificent rings and its largest moon Titan. Discover what we have learned from the Cassini Solstice Mission which entered orbit around Saturn for the first in-depth, up-close study of the ringed planet, its magnetosphere and rings, Titan and the other icy moons.

Kim Check, Visitor Center manager, said, “The astronomy nights have shown to be extremely popular with our visitors this year. It gives everyone the opportunity to explore space and imagine the possibilities.”
The Delmarva Space Sciences Foundation will be on-site to provide expertise and high-powered telescope views of Saturn, Jupiter, Earth’s Moon and the Orion Nebula. In addition, there will be astronomy presentations, Saturn and Cassini mission films, and children’s activities.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will occur regardless of cloud cover. Telescope viewing is subject to cancellation due to inclement weather.

The NASA Visitor Center, located on Va. Rt. 175 about six miles from U. S. Route 13 and five miles from Chincoteague, is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
