NASA Awards Utility Energy Service Contract for Kennedy Space Center

NASA has selected Florida Power and Light (FPL) of Juno Beach, Florida, to provide all resources necessary to perform the Phase 1 Utility Energy Service Contract at the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The contract is an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, firm fixed-price task order award with a total value of about $21.9 million. The performance period is approximately July 30, 2021 through August 30, 2023.

The project includes upgrades, modifications, and consolidations of various energy consuming systems as well as energy and water savings, added resiliency, increased systems controls, and capacity/flexibility of the energy power and demand reduction capabilities, with a payback within 15 years.

The project includes several energy-conservation measures, including chiller plant and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning improvements; replacing air handling units and boilers; upgrading lighting and controls; replacing transformers; making water fixture efficiency improvements; and developing a two-megawatt solar photovoltaic array.
