NASA has selected Fiber Materials Inc. of Biddeford, Maine, for a contract providing thermal protection systems (TPS) for three NASA missions under the agency’s Science Mission Directorate: Mars Sample Return (MSR) / Earth Entry Vehicle; MSR Sample Return Lander; and Dragonfly. Each of these projects require ablative TPS materials for ground testing and flight.
The period of performance will begin Wednesday, Jan. 20, and run through Jan. 19, 2026. The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, firm fixed-price contract has a maximum value of $24 million and a minimum order value that will be satisfied with the first order issued. The first order has a total value of $635,748.29.
The requirement is to develop specifications for these TPS materials and produce the hardware in conjunction with NASA’s schedule. Fiber Materials will deliver TPS materials to each of these three projects for integration onto the respective spacecraft.
