History of Wallops Island Lecture Series Continues April 14

The NASA Wallops Flight Facility Visitor Center will continue the History of Wallops Island Lecture Series with “Part 2 – Wallops Island during the World War II: the U.S. Navy Legacy 1942 through 1946” at 5 p.m., Thursday, April 14.

The series kicked-off in March, to nearly 70 people in attendance, with the exploration of the early history of Wallops Island. During Part 2, Wallops employee T.J. Meyer, who has conducted extensive research on the history of Wallops Island and the main facility, will discuss topics that include the start of WWII, submarine attacks along the east coast, the arrival of the Navy and the Battle of the Atlantic.

The lecture series will be held at the Visitor Center’s auditorium and also will be recorded and available at a later date on the Wallops YouTube channel.

The History of Wallops Island Lecture Series will feature two additional lectures. The third lecture, November 10, explores activities at Wallops from 1946 through 1959 and the final lecture on December 8 examines 1959 through 1980.

The NASA Visitor Center, located on Va. Rt. 175 about six miles from U. S. Route 13 and five miles from Chincoteague, is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
