Death of a 7-Month-Old Child on Redstone Arsenal

On Sept. 21, 2016 at 4:39 p.m. officials at Redstone Arsenal were notified of a medical emergency at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

Fire and medical personnel arrived to the incident at 4:42 p.m. and found that a 7-month-old child had died after being left in a parked vehicle during the work day.

Early reports indicate that the parent intended to drop the child off at the childcare center and instead went straight to work.

Federal officials are investigating the death. Names are being withheld out of respect for the family and pending all appropriate family notifications.

“This is a tragic situation and our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the family,” said Marshall Director Todd May. “The Marshall community is a family and I know this team will pull together to support one another in this difficult time.”
