App Coding Components

The coding components below will assist you in developing a Lunar Visualization App. Detailed information regarding these components and additional resources are available in the ADC Guide under the section entitled “Coding Components”.

In October 2020 we provided an update to the original ‘Lunar Data File’ and added two types of ‘Regional Data Files’. The Regional Data Files are a constrained set of data from the larger Lunar Data File.

Participants can utilize either the Lunar Data File (1A) or the Regional Data Files (1B) to create their Lunar Visualization App. Choose one option, either 1A or 1B, do not use both as they contain overlapping data.

1A. Lunar Data File

An Excel spreadsheet (CSV file) with four aspects of the lunar South Pole from -88.0 to -90.0 degrees North latitude at a separation of 40 meters.

  • Latitude (degrees North)
  • Longitude (degrees East)
  • Height (meters)
  • Slope (degrees)

1B. Regional Data File

An Excel Spreadsheet (CSV file) with four aspects of the lunar South Pole. A regional dataset focused nearby the challenge starting landing site and challenge desired destination site with Shackleton Crater identified. Files identify a smaller number of data points and are directly plottable in a gridded format.

Regional dataset provided in 2 formats:

          a. Same 4-column format file as for the original Lunar Data File (Latitude, Longitude, Height, Slope)

Regional Data File (Download)

          b. Four unique files, one per parameter that are already in gridded format.

2. Lunar Surface Texture

  • An example lunar regolith surface texture
