Recently, NASA astronauts Josh Cassada and Sunita “Suni” Williams paid a visit to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. These space travelers had the opportunity to view the Orion spacecraft and Interim Cryogenic Propulsion Stage (ICPS) for the Space Launch System that currently reside in the spaceport’s Multi-Payload Processing Facility. Each of the flight elements will undergo servicing ahead of the Artemis I launch. Williams and Cassada also took time to engage with the Exploration Ground Systems and Jacobs teams that are performing the fueling operations for these flight components. Once fueling is complete, Orion will move to the Launch Abort System Facility for integration with its launch abort system and ICPS will move to the iconic Vehicle Assembly Building to be readied for stacking atop the mobile launcher. Artemis I will be the first test of the integrated Orion and SLS system. Under the Artemis program, this mission will set a foundation for human deep space exploration and demonstrate our commitment and capability to extend human existence to the Moon and beyond.
