The Aorounga Impact Crater

iss070e045218 (Dec. 23, 2023) -- Located in the Sahara Desert, the Aorounga Impact Crater stretches nearly 8 miles (~12.6km) in diameter. The crater is thought to be approximately 325-370 million years old, with outer and inner rings that rise about 330 feet (100 meters) above the surrounding terrain. As the International Space Station soared 258 miles above north-central Chad, this image was taken.
