The X-56A remotely piloted aircraft begins a research mission from NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center in the skies above Edwards Air Force Base, California. The aircraft has lightweight and flexible wings and a system which suppressed a potentially destructive vibration called flutter. The successes of the project could allow future airline designers to use such wings to conserve fuel.
