Boeing Phantom Works technicians prepared the sub-scale X-48C Hybrid / Blended Wing Body technology demonstrator for its first test flight from the bed of Rogers Dry Lake at Edwards Air Force Base on Aug. 7, 2012. The X-48 “C” model was distinguished from the prior “B” model by having two higher-thrust turbojets in place of the original three, an extended rear deck and its vertical tails moved from their prior wingtip location to just outboard of and behind the engine exhaust ducts to reduce the aircraft’s noise imprint.August 7, 2012
