This week in 1994, STS-64 astronaut Carl J. Meade tests the Simplified Aid for EVA Rescue system 130 nautical miles above Earth. The mission, flown aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery, was the first untethered U.S. extravehicular activity in 10 years. The NASA History Program documents and preserves NASA’s remarkable history through a variety of products — photos, press kits, press releases, mission transcripts and administrators’ speeches.
