Completed in 1973, Deep Space Station 63 (DSS-63) was the third 64 meter (210 foot) antenna of the Deep Space Network (DSN). Located in Robledo de Chevala, Spain, DSS-63 received its first signals from Pioneer 10’s encounter with Jupiter and Mariner 10’s mission to Venus. In 1987, DSS-63 was upgraded to 70 meters (230 feet) in diameter for Voyager 1 and 2’s encounters with the solar system’s outer planets. With this upgrade, each of the three DSN stations has a 70 meter antenna.
