A remote camera at the Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Pad 39A captured the launch of Space Shuttle Columbia on its maiden flight on April 12, 1981. Commander John W. Young and pilot Robert L. Crippen were aboard Columbia on its 54-hour test mission that ended April 14 with an unpowered landing at Edwards Air Force Base in Southern California.April 12, 1981
