NASA’s Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) is shown inside the cavernous Lufthansa Technik hangar in Hamburg, Germany where it was scheduled to undergo major inspections and maintenance over a four-month period. The work, being performed by Lufthansa Technik specialists along with NASA personnel, is being funded by the German Aerospace Agency as part of its 20 percent contribution to the SOFIA program.
