Title: NASA Thermostructural Laboratory
Designer: Dr. William Ko
Year it was designed: 1986 (original date of design)
Explanation or story behind the patch: Dr. William Ko submitted this design when the Dryden Flight Research Facility became a Center again (1994), and a Facilities Organization was created to manage all DFRC facilities. To keep the Flight Loads Laboratory (current title) in the Aerostructures Branch, it was necessary to change its name from Thermostructures Research Facility to Thermostructural Laboratory. In other words, it could no longer be a facility so it became a laboratory. Eventually the name was changed to Flight Loads Laboratory as it remains today.
