Title: NASA Dryden Flight Research Facility

Designer: Unknown

Year it was designed: circa 1981

Explanation or story behind the patch: On 1 October 1981, as part of a consolidation effort for reasons of fiscal austerity, Dryden became of part of Ames Research Center as the Ames-Dryden Flight Research Facility (DFRF). Nearly all of Dryden’s administrative activities were transferred to Ames with the exception of a new site manager’s office to provide stewardship of Ames interests at Dryden. Despite cultural differences between Ames and Dryden, much was accomplished over the course of the ensuing decade. Since there was no obvious benefit to consolidation, this institutional pairing came to an end on 1 October 1994 when Dryden once again became an autonomous NASA center.
