Explanation or story behind the patch: The NASA Dryden Flight Research Center was subsumed into the NASA Ames Research Center in 1982 in an effort to reduce duplication and reduce costs. In so doing, NASA Dryden became the NASA Dryden Flight Research Facility. And so NASA Dryden would remain until 1994 when it became a Center again.
