Nearing the End of the Line for ALDF

A look at part of NASA Langley's ALDF facility before it was demolished on March 10, 2015.
As part of a project to dismantle NASA Langley's Aircraft Landing Dynamics Facility, or ALDF, workers recently demolished a cable lifter. A photographer captured a last glimpse before this part of the facility was torn down.

This image shows a device called a cable lifter just before it was demolished at NASA Langley’s Aircraft Landing Dynamics Facility (ALDF) on March 10.

The ALDF is being demolished and the site repurposed as the Remote Sensing Test Range. Demolition is scheduled to be complete in October 2015.

The facility tested everything from space shuttle tires to airplane landing gear since opening in 1956.

The demolition is part of Langley’s 20-year revitalization plan, which calls for construction of new facilities to keep Langley ready to meet mission needs, and the removal of aging structures.
