NASA’s Terra satellite passed over southeastern Mexico and spotted plumes of smoke from multiple raging fires.
This natural-color satellite image was collected by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard the Terra satellite on April 30 at 17:10 UTC (1:10 p.m. EDT). Actively burning areas, detected by MODIS’s thermal bands, are outlined in red. Large plumes of smoke from various fires in the eastern part of Mexico’s Oaxaca state were streaming to the north into the Mexican state of Veracruz.
