Midshipman Jackie Booker from the U.S. Naval Academy presented NASA Associate Administrator Bob Cabana with a Distinguished Graduate Medal on Sept. 2, 2021 in Annapolis, Maryland. The recognition is presented by the U.S. Naval Academy’s Alumni Association to recognize graduates who have demonstrated a lifetime commitment to service, personal character and distinguished contributions to our nation. Cabana was one of four Naval Academy alumnus recognized this year. Cabana graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1971, served as a naval aviator and test pilot for the Marine Corps, prior to being selected as an astronaut candidate in June 1985. A veteran of four spaceflights, Cabana has logged 38 days in space, serving as the pilot on STS-41 and STS-53 and mission commander on STS-65 and STS-88. Following his retirement as a colonel from the Marine Corps in September 2000, Cabana was appointed a member of the Federal Senior Executive Service and has served in numerous NASA leadership positions.
