Title: Sonic Booms in Atmospheric Turbulence (SonicBAT) – KSC deployment

Designer: David Faust modified the original patch by Amanda Spakes (AFRC Graphics)

Year it was designed: 2017

Explanation or story behind the patch: As part of the Commercial Supersonic Technology Project, SonicBAT investigated the effect of low-altitude turbulence on the loudness of sonic booms hitting the ground using an F-18 aircraft to generate booms and a TG-14, ground microphone array, and weather equipment to record the booms and weather data. The flights were conducted at Kennedy Space Center to gather data in a hot, humid environment.
